Default Eta Carinae

Hi GStarEx users,
Had some better than average seeing a couple of nights ago and
decided to take my chances on imaging the massive star Eta Carinae
and the nebula that surrounds it.
The image was made by stacking eight hundred frames in Registax 6,
and with some contrast enhancement and some slight sharpening it
turned out reasonably well.
I used a GStarEx2 camera and 256 sense up mode, together with a
2.5X barlow on a 16" classical cassegrain telescope which was guided
on the cross hair reticle that is available on the capture software.
All in all I am very pleased with the result.
Cheers
George Makaroff

That's a really good image George. It's often quite difficult with objects like this to find the best exposure balance between the core and the faint outer stuff. Particularly you have captured the rear and front lobes very nicely. Congratulations!

Default Eta Carinae

Hi Steve,
Thanks very much for the compliment.
I think it turned out rather well considering that I'm
only new to the astrophotography side of things.
I suppose the biggest problem is getting the steady
seeing which is so few and far between.
The ease with which one can take images with the
GStarEx2 camera, coupled with the software, makes
it a joy to use.
Cheers
George
